Karbonn, Lava To Launch Cheap Windows Phones

After Nokia, Samsung and HTC, now Lava and Karbonn are all set to launch their first Windows Phones soon, as per PTI inputs. These two companies are popular in India for their low-cost devices among users. Continuing their trend, Windows Phones would be soon launched starting at a price of Rs. 6000. The chief officers of both the companies have given statements announcing the launch to be in June and July. Xolo phones are planned to be launched in coming quarter.

This must have been a risky move for the companies as users are still reluctant to buy Windows Phones, but it would make such phones available at low cost. The phones will be based on Windows 8 OS with Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor. Though nothing is announced yet about the other specifications of phones, one can expect very moderate features as per the price tag.

According to CEO of Lava, the company is expecting that Windows phones would represent about 8-10 percent of total Lava smartphones. Xolo is targeting to reach 15 percent share of smartphone market by 2014 end.

Reportedly, Karbonn would take out a total of four Windows-based phones by May-end or June in the price range of Rs 6000-Rs 12000. Whereas Lava smartphones would have price tag ranging between Rs 6500-Rs 8500. Microsoft had announced to work with nine new companies as Windows Phone partners at Mobile World Congress 2014. These companies include Foxconn, Gionee, Karbonn, Lava(Xolo), LG, ZTE etc. As per IDC figures, Android had 78.1 share for smartphone market whereas Windows Phone only had 3 percent share.
